Erbium YAG Laser Skin Resurfacing
Erbium Laser Resurfacing — Unveil Your Best Skin Yet.
Erbium (Er:YAG, 2,940 nm) laser skin resurfacing at LuXe Concierge Aesthetics in Davie, FL gently removes damaged surface layers and stimulates fresh collagen to reveal smoother, brighter, more youthful skin. Offered in fractional or fully ablative depths, it softens fine lines and wrinkles, fades acne scars and sun damage, and refines uneven tone and texture — often with less downtime than traditional CO2 resurfacing. Every treatment is tailored to your Fitzpatrick skin type and goals by an experienced nurse practitioner.

What Erbium Resurfacing Actually Is
The Erbium laser is the precise, gentler cousin in the resurfacing family. Its wavelength is absorbed almost entirely by water in the skin, so it vaporizes the damaged surface with very little heat spreading to surrounding tissue. In practice, that means smoother, brighter skin and fresh collagen — with a shorter, more comfortable recovery than the deeper options.
When Erbium Is the Better Choice Over CO2
This is one of the most important decisions in resurfacing. CO2 runs hotter and deeper — ideal for advanced wrinkles, deep scars, and laxity, but with more downtime and more risk in some skin types. Erbium is more precise and puts out far less heat, so it heals faster, is kinder to thinner or more delicate skin, and is often the smarter choice for fine lines, tone and texture, or anyone who can’t disappear for a week. For many patients, Erbium delivers a beautiful refresh with a fraction of the recovery — and the consultation makes clear which laser fits the skin.
Fractionated or Fully Ablative
Erbium can be run fractionally — treating part of the skin for quicker healing and lighter downtime — or as a fully ablative pass for more complete resurfacing. That flexibility lets the treatment be built around the concern and the schedule.
What Erbium Treats
It’s excellent for fine lines and wrinkles, uneven texture and tone, sun damage, mild scarring, enlarged pores, and dull, tired skin — on the face and delicate areas like around the eyes, plus the neck, chest, and hands.
What to Expect and the Downtime
Downtime depends on how deep the treatment goes: a lighter fractional pass might mean just a few days of redness and flaking, while a deeper pass needs more healing. As a rule, Erbium bounces back faster than a comparable CO2 treatment, and results keep building over the following weeks as collagen forms.
Pairing Erbium With Radiesse and RF Microneedling
Resurfacing fixes the surface, but real rejuvenation also restores what’s underneath. Erbium pairs well with hyperdilute Radiesse to rebuild collagen across a broader area, and with RF microneedling for deeper remodeling — sequenced safely so the surface and the foundation improve together for a more complete, natural result.
Who’s a Candidate, and Who Isn’t
Erbium suits most people who want smoother, fresher skin, and its precision makes it a solid option across a range of skin types when used the right way. As with any resurfacing, extra care — or a different approach — applies with active infection or cold sores, recent sun, certain medications, and some skin tones. History and skin type are reviewed carefully at the consultation.
Choosing the Right Laser Is the Whole Game
Matching the laser, the depth, and the right combination to one specific face is clinical judgment, not a preset. Deborah Lenchus, MSN, APRN runs every Erbium treatment personally, guided by a simple philosophy: the greatest result from the gentlest effective approach. Deborah also teaches these techniques to other nurse practitioners, PAs, and physicians through both LuXe Concierge Aesthetics and Elevate Aesthetics Academy, and has performed live VI Peel demonstrations and presented at medical conferences sponsored by VI Peel.

Spectrum Erbium YAG For Micro Laser Peel
What is Erbium Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Erbium:YAG laser utilizes a 2940nm wavelength to resurface the skin. This fully ablative and customizable laser can target skin from 10 to 100 microns deep.
What Makes Erbium Laser Unique?
The Erbium:YAG laser’s 2940 nm wavelength rapidly vaporizes water in the skin, providing instant skin ablation while minimizing heat damage to surrounding tissues. Unlike CO2 lasers, Erbium offers superficial skin resurfacing, delivering superior results with advantages such as reduced anesthetic needs, shorter healing times, less redness, and lower risk of pigmentary changes.
Indications for Erbium Laser?
Erbium-YAG lasers effectively treat various skin issues including acne scarring, wrinkles, skin texture, and melasma. It’s particularly effective for lines around the mouth and eyes.
What Does Erbium Laser Resurfacing Do?
Erbium:YAG laser resurfacing manages various skin conditions and lesions, including photoaging, wrinkles, and benign/malignant cutaneous lesions, with minimal invasiveness.
Differences from Other Laser Treatments?
Unlike CO2 lasers, erbium lasers provide a gentler approach, often termed the “micro laser peel.” They target fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and mild scarring.
Post-Treatment Care?
Recovery is straightforward when you follow these steps:
- Discomfort is minimal and feels like a sunburn for about two hours; cool compresses may help. Avoid anti-inflammatory/NSAID medications.
- Swelling is normal — sleep with your head elevated for two days, on your back on a clean pillowcase.
- Cleanse gently twice a day with a mild cleanser such as Cetaphil (with clean hands) and pat dry with a soft, clean cloth.
- Keep skin moist with the occlusive ointment your provider recommends until it heals over (usually days 3–5), then switch to a gentle moisturizer 2–3 times a day. Do not use other products unless instructed, and do not scratch or pick.
- Avoid direct sun for at least four weeks (up to six months for best results). Once healed, apply a zinc/titanium dioxide sunscreen, reapply every two hours outdoors, and wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
- Keep phones, glasses, and other contaminants away from the treated skin, and drink at least 64 oz of water per day.
- You may resume makeup once healed (typically 5–7 days) and avoid vigorous exercise for one week.
- Deeper skin tones are more prone to hyperpigmentation — notify your provider right away if any area begins to darken, or if you notice blistering or signs of infection.
Can Erbium be combined with other treatments?
Am I a Candidate for Erbium Laser Resurfacing?
The best way to know is a consultation, where your provider assesses your skin type and health history.
Erbium laser resurfacing works best on lighter to medium skin tones (Fitzpatrick skin types I–IV). Because deeper skin tones carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (temporary darkening), skin type IV — such as olive skin — is pre-treated with a skin-prep regimen for several weeks beforehand to lower that risk; pre-treatment is also recommended for skin type III when a more aggressive treatment is planned. Very deep skin tones (types V–VI) are generally not candidates for ablative resurfacing.
This treatment is also generally not recommended if you:
- Are pregnant, possibly pregnant, or breastfeeding
- Have an active infection, or an active or recurrent cold sore in the treatment area (an antiviral may be prescribed first)
- Have used isotretinoin (Accutane) within the past 12 months
- Have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring
- Have an autoimmune or immune-compromising condition, or uncontrolled diabetes
- Take anticoagulant (blood-thinning) medication
- Have a history of skin cancer or a suspicious or pre-malignant lesion in the treatment area
- Have untreated rosacea or active melasma in the treatment area
At your consultation we review all of this and let you know whether Erbium laser resurfacing — or a gentler alternative — is right for you.
Anti-Aging Benefits and Collagen Stimulation?
Both fractionally ablative and fully ablative Erbium laser resurfacing stimulate collagen reorganization and fibroblast activation, particularly yielding significant results in a shorter time with fully ablative resurfacing.
Expectations and Recovery?
Topical numbing cream is used for comfort. Mild redness and sunburn-like sensation may last hours to days. Peeling may occur a few days after, and patients should avoid picking.
Sensation During Treatment?
Erbium laser provides a safer, less painful method for achieving softer, smoother, more youthful-looking skin. Procedures are typically performed in-office with minimal discomfort.
Pre-Treatment Instructions?
To get the best possible results, please follow these guidelines before your Erbium laser treatment:
