Erbium Glass 1540 nm Resurfacing
Erbium Glass laser resurfacing is now available at LuXe Concierge Aesthetics in Davie on our new nuCORE laser platform. This 1540 nm fractional laser is non-ablative. It heats tiny, precise columns deep in the skin to trigger collagen remodeling but leaves the surface intact. That’s why the recovery is measured in days of pinkness rather than a week at home.

What Erbium Glass Actually Does
The 1540 nm wavelength is absorbed by water in the skin. The laser lays down a grid of microscopic heated columns (“fractional” treatment) that reach into the dermis, where collagen lives. The skin between those columns is left untouched, and because the surface isn’t removed, it heals quickly from the healthy tissue around each column. Over the following months, the body replaces the treated tissue with fresh, better-organized collagen. The result is smoother texture, tighter-looking pores, softer lines and flatter scars.
What Erbium Glass Treats
Texture and pores. This is where Erbium Glass shines. It gives rough, uneven skin a more refined, polished surface.
Acne scars. Rolling and shallow boxcar scars soften over a series. Deep, narrow “ice pick” scars respond less and often need a combined approach.
Fine lines and crepey skin. New collagen smooths early lines and thin, crepey skin on the face, neck, chest and backs of the hands.
Scars and stretch marks. Surgical scars, injury scars and stretch marks become flatter, softer and less noticeable.
Erbium Glass, Erbium YAG or CO2?
Think of these as a ladder. Erbium Glass is non-ablative: the least downtime, done as a series, and the safest for deeper skin tones. Erbium YAG is ablative. It removes a fine layer of the surface for a stronger texture change and needs a bit more recovery. Fractional CO2 is maximum resurfacing for pores, scars and wrinkles, with the most downtime. At your consultation, we match the laser to your skin, your goals and how much time you can take off.
Why It Works for Deeper Skin Tones
Many resurfacing lasers carry a real risk of dark marks (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) on olive, brown and Black skin. Erbium Glass targets water, not melanin, and leaves the surface intact, so the risk is much lower. For Fitzpatrick IV–VI skin we use lower density, and sometimes a short pigment-prep routine beforehand. Strict sun protection matters for everyone.
Who Should Wait or Skip It
We postpone treatment during pregnancy; with an active infection, cold sore, open wound or active breakout in the area; on recently tanned or sunburned skin; and after recent isotretinoin (Accutane) use. A history of keloids, poor wound healing or light-sensitivity disorders also needs a careful conversation first. If you get cold sores, we’ll prescribe or recommend an antiviral before any treatment around the mouth.
What to Expect During Treatment
Numbing cream goes on for 30–45 minutes, and your eyes are protected. The laser passes over the skin in a few careful passes with cooling. It feels like prickly heat. Afterward the skin is flushed and warm, like a sunburn, for a few hours. That redness and mild swelling is the sign that treatment reached the right depth.
Downtime, Day by Day
Days 1–2: redness, warmth and some swelling. Puffiness is often most noticeable the first morning, especially under the eyes. Days 2–5: the skin feels like fine sandpaper and may look slightly bronzed as the tiny treated columns work their way out, then it flakes lightly. By about day 5–7: most people look like themselves again. Most patients go back to work the next day, and makeup can usually go on after 24 hours.
How Many Sessions You’ll Need
Most people do a series of three to five treatments, most often four, spaced four to six weeks apart. Deeper acne scars and stretch marks sit at the higher end. Collagen keeps remodeling for months, so results continue to improve for three to six months after your last session. Maintenance every six to twelve months keeps things smooth.
What Erbium Glass Pairs Well With
Erbium Glass handles texture. For brown spots and redness on lighter skin, we often pair it with an IPL photofacial, treating color with IPL first and then resurfacing with Erbium Glass. For pigment on deeper skin tones, pico laser is the partner. We space and sequence treatments safely so tone and texture improve together.

Pre-Treatment Guidelines
Before your Erbium Glass treatment:
- Avoid sun exposure, tanning and self-tanner for four weeks.
- Stop retinoids, exfoliating acids and scrubs one week before.
- Tell us about any medications, recent isotretinoin (Accutane) use, or a history of cold sores. You may need an antiviral before treatment around the mouth.
- Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup and lotion.
Post-Treatment Care
After your Erbium Glass treatment:
- Use a gentle cleanser and a bland, hydrating moisturizer several times a day.
- Apply mineral SPF 30+ daily and avoid direct sun.
- Skip makeup for 24 hours, and avoid heat, heavy sweating, saunas and hot tubs for 48 hours.
- Avoid retinoids, acids, vitamin C and scrubs until flaking has fully settled, usually five to seven days.
- Don’t pick or scrub the sandpaper texture. Let it flake on its own.
- Sleep slightly elevated and use cool compresses to ease swelling.
