Can you shrink enlarged pores?
“Pore size comes down to genetics, oil production, sun damage and the gradual loss of elasticity that lets pores stretch — so while I cannot erase pores permanently, I can genuinely minimize them and smooth texture. The key is matching the treatment to what is driving yours. In simple terms: Pixel8 RF microneedling is best for pores with tightening, an Erbium laser is best for pores with rough texture, and fractional CO2 is maximum resurfacing for pores with acne scars and wrinkles — while oil control and the right medical-grade skincare, a retinoid or BHA, are the foundation under all of it, along with daily sunscreen.”

How I match the treatment to your pores
- Oily, younger, congested skin: control oil and congestion first with the right retinoid or BHA, then DP4 microneedling (or a Q-switch / carbon-laser peel), with maintenance skincare.
- Pores with early laxity: Pixel8 RF microneedling, usually a series of three — best for pores plus tightening.
- Pores with rough texture or photoaging: an Erbium:YAG series — best for pores plus texture.
- Pores with acne scars: Pixel8, Erbium, or a combination, depending on scar type and your skin.
- Significant pores with acne scars and wrinkles: fractional CO2 for maximum resurfacing, when you accept the downtime and risk.
- Pores with pigment or redness: IPL to treat the pigment or vascular component — a complement, not the primary way to reduce pores.

Enlarged pores and rough, uneven texture are among the most common skin concerns — and among the most improvable with the right collagen-building and resurfacing treatments.
Best treatments for pores & texture
- RF microneedling and medical microneedling — refine pores and smooth texture by building collagen.
- Fractional CO2 and Erbium resurfacing — resurface texture and refine the skin surface.
- Chemical peels and medical-grade skincare — smooth and maintain results.
Deborah’s Clinical Perspective
Enlarged pores are one of the most misunderstood concerns, because no cream or laser truly shrinks a pore forever — pore size is largely set by genetics, oil production, sun damage and the loss of elasticity that lets the pore wall slacken with age. What we can do, and do well, is minimize their appearance and refine the surrounding skin. That is why I treat pores with an algorithm rather than a single go-to: I look at whether the main driver is oil, laxity, texture, scarring, pigment or a combination, and choose accordingly (see the guide above). To keep it simple, I position the three workhorses clearly — Pixel8 RF microneedling for pores plus tightening, Erbium for pores plus texture, and CO2 for maximum resurfacing when pores come with scars and wrinkles. Underneath every plan is oil control and consistent medical-grade skincare with a well-chosen retinoid or BHA, because treating pores without managing sebum and cell turnover is a short-lived fix. One newer option I am watching closely is intradermal micro-Botox, which has encouraging early evidence for reducing oiliness and the look of pores, though the effect is temporary and lasts a few months. And since sun exposure worsens both laxity and pore appearance, daily sunscreen is non-negotiable.

FAQ
Can you permanently shrink pores?
Pores cannot be permanently shrunk, but collagen-building treatments can make them look significantly smaller by smoothing and thickening the surrounding skin.
What treatment is best for texture?
Often RF microneedling or microneedling, with laser resurfacing when the surface needs more correction.
