What Sculptra Really Is

Sculptra isn’t a filler in the usual sense — it doesn’t just sit there taking up space. It’s made of poly-L-lactic acid, and what it really does is coax your own body into building new collagen over time. So instead of an instant plump, you get a gradual, natural return of volume and better skin quality that looks like you simply aged in reverse a little. That’s why people can’t quite put their finger on what you had done.

How It Works

As we get older we lose collagen and the deep fat that holds the face up. I place Sculptra’s tiny PLLA particles in the deeper layers, where they act like a scaffold and nudge your cells to make fresh collagen over the following months. Because the volume is your own tissue, it looks and feels completely natural.

What I Use It For

Sculptra is my go-to for restoring volume and firmness to the temples, cheeks, midface, jawline, and lower face, and for smoothing crepey texture. I love it for patients who want a subtle, “you but rested” result rather than an obvious change.

Sculptra vs. Regular Filler

Hyaluronic acid filler gives immediate, targeted volume and can be dissolved. Sculptra plays a longer game: results build gradually as collagen forms, it treats broad, overall volume loss, and it typically lasts up to two years. Plenty of my patients use both — filler for precision, Sculptra for the foundation.

Sculptra is usually a short series of sessions spaced a few weeks apart, and I tailor the number to how much volume you’ve lost. Downtime is minimal — maybe some swelling or bruising — and I’ll walk you through the post-treatment massage that keeps everything smooth and even.
